- Make a list
Think about what kinds of home maintenance and updates you'd like to take care of. Listing each thing you'd like to work on will serve as a checklist for you to keep track of your projects.
- Assess your skills
Consider whether you are able to do the projects yourself. In many cases you may need a professional to help you with the things you'd like to do. If you don't have experience in electrical, plumbing, or construction work you may find yourself out of your element. (For what it's worth, ask us if you need a recommendation)
- Establish priorities
What projects are most important to you and why? Would you rather complete all of the small maintenance items that you can first then move on to the larger projects? Are you more concerned with how quickly a job is done or how costly it will be? Before you start any DIY repairs, make sure you identify your goal and give yourself a timeline!
- Create a budget
Make sure that you create a budget for your projects so you can keep track of your spending. Make sure that you add a cushion to your budget for any unexpected expenses that come up during the process. This will help reduce your stress level when things come up that weren't planned.
- One step at a time
When you do decide to start - remember that no one is telling you it has to be done right this instant. Home maintenance projects sometimes will take time to complete. Just knock out one thing at a time and soon enough you will get the satisfaction of getting things done!
